Therapeutic Foods
These therapeutic foods will help you get well:
Cultured dairy products. Consume 8 to 32 ounces of the highest quality cultured dairy products. Try to find yogurt that does not contain the organism Streptococcus therophilus, a bacterial microbe that has been implicated in the exacerbation of certain immune system disorders.
Grass fed red meat. Red meat from grass fed cattle, buffalo, and lamb is very healthy and can be eaten several times per week. This meat is a great source of protein, minerals, vitamin B12, vitamin D, beta carotene, omega 3 fats, and CLA.
Omega 3 eggs. Consume as many as two to four eggs high in the omega 3 fatty acids each day. These eggs contain DHA, vitamins E and B12, and antioxidants.
Coconut oil. This oil is perhaps the healthiest of the widely available oils. We recommend cooking almost exclusively with coconut oil. Consume as much as 2 to 4 tablespoons of the oil in cooking, in smoothies, or right off the spoon. It contains large amounts of lauric acid, a potent antimicrobial and one of the chief fatty acids in breast milk.
Ocean caught fish. This type of fish is perhaps the of all protein sources. Salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring, and tuna are high in the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Ocean caught fish can be consumed every day to enhance digestive and immune system health.
Cod liver oil. 1 teaspoon of plain or flavored cod liver oil each day. Cod liver oil is a fantastic source of the omega 3 fats DHA and EPA, as well as vitamins A and D.
Vegetable juice. As long as your diarrhea is not active, consume vegetable juices that are low in carbohydrates, such as celery and green juices, mixed with a small amount of higher carbohydrate veggies, such as carrot or beet. Mix in some form of health fat with each glass of the juice. A teaspoon of cultured milk, coconut milk and cream, or flaxseed oil enhances the absorption of minerals and prevents spikes in blood sugar.
Fermented vegetables. Consume a few tablespoons of fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut with each meal to aid in digestion. Fermented vegetables are excellent sources of naturally occurring probiotics and enzymes.
Stocks. Consume stocks on a regular basis, especially when you have a cold or flu. Stocks made from the bones of chicken, fish, lamb, or beef contain minerals, gelatin, cartilage, collagen, and electrolytes. Stocks help to heal the gut lining and reduce inflammation.

Effects of Candidiasis
Many cases of candidia occur after taking antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all bacteria, friendly and unfriendly, in the gut. Because candida is yeast, however, it is unaffected by antibiotics. After the bacteria in the gut die, candida can take over and multiply. In susceptible individuals, a sugar rich diet may also contribute to the development of candidia because the yeast tends to favor sugar. (There was an interesting study concerning yeast and sugar published several years ago in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that a high sugar diet made certain individuals worse, but did not uniformly increase the growth of candida in all individuals on the sugar diet. The authors of the study concluded that a high sugar diet alone may not be enough to cause candidia, but if you have candida or are susceptible to developing it, a high sugar and carbohydrate diet will likely make your candida worse.) Hormonal changes brought on by the menstrual cycle, oral contraceptives, and diabetes can also cause or exacerbate a candida infection.
In the alternative medical community, every human ill from gut aches to bad hair to global warming has been attributed to a candida infection. This pseudo diagnosis is thrown around haphazardly, and frankly, it drives us mad. We believe that candidia overgrowth is a symptom, not a disease entity unto itself. When the gut flora are fortified and the factors that contribute to candida are properly addressed, the body should be able to heal itself of candida. We have often successfully treated candida without having to resort to anti-fungal pharmaceuticals.

Signs of Candidiasis
Candidiasis, also known as candidia, is caused by a yeast fungus called Candidia ablicans. As a yeast, Candida albicans is found in many places in the body: the throat, mouth, digestive tract, and baginal tract. It is also found on the skin. Candidia albicans has many uses in the digestive tract. For example, the yeast recognizes and destroys harmful bacteria. However. if the yeast grows out of control , it can become aggressive and produce candidiasis, intestinal disease, vaginal infections, and thrush, and infection of the mouth. Sufferers also complain of fatigue, allergic-type reactions, and episodic occurrences of altered sensorium aka brain fog.
Candidia is believed to contribute to a host of gastrointestinal complaints when it is out of balance with the other microbes in the gastrointestinal tract. These complaints include constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, and abdominal pain. Although conventional medicine does not recognize it, enough anecdotal evidence can be found to suggest the existence of yeast overgrowth syndrome. This syndrome occurs when the by-products of yeast metabolism enter the system.
